Product purpose

After delivery, you will experience a bloody discharge from your vagina. This will turn pink within a week and then white or yellow after about 10 days. It may last for 2 to 4 weeks or longer, until the uterus has healed.

Unfortunately, the postpartum journey often comes with pain. Witch hazel can help reduce swelling, pain, and bruising, as well as relieve itching and inflammation associated with *hemorrhoids.

We recommend:

  • Placing the witch hazel pads on a maternity pad.

  • Using them to wipe the area after using the toilet instead of toilet paper.

  • Folding and tucking them into the folds of your bottom as a compress so they are directly in contact with the sore spot to relieve pain from hemorrhoids and postpartum swelling.

  • For added relief, keep them in the fridge and use as needed.

A hospital bag must-have!

*What Are Postpartum Hemorrhoids?

A hemorrhoid is a painful swelling of a vein in the rectum. After giving birth, especially following a vaginal delivery, many women develop hemorrhoids. Symptoms include pain, rectal itching, bleeding after a bowel movement, and a swollen area around the anus. They can look with a hard, red lump protruding from the outside of the anal area. They're typically most sore up to five days after birth, but improve noticeably by two weeks postpartum

How to use

General Use:

Use one cotton Witch Hazel Pad at a time to gently wipe the skin or leave in place as a compress. Use as often as you need. If you are using for haemorrhoids, place the pad around the swelling and leave in place for as long as possible (external use only). The pads can also be used as a gentle ‘wipe’ for the area, although remember wiping can irritate haemorrhoids further. We recommend using a Maxi Peri Bottle or Sitz Bath to cleanse the area first.

Postpartum Use:

Place one or more Witch Hazel Pad(s) flat on top of your maternity pad/towel or Instant Perineal Cold Pack and leave in place until the next change. Although the pads provide some cooling relief, you can store them in the fridge for an extra cooling boost if you prefer. Use as often as you need. Remember the pads are for external use only. Do not place in between the labia minora.

Use with an Instant Perineal Cold Pack for maximum perineal soothing.

Caution:

For EXTERNAL use only. Stop using if irritation occurs. Store in a cool, dry place, out of reach of children. Do not use if you are allergic to any of the ingredients. Do not use on broken skin.

Replace the lid after use, the pads may dry out if the lid is not closed properly after each use.

*If you are using on eczema, be sure to follow with an intensive moisturiser cream to prevent your skin from drying out too much.
